European Pricing for the Yamaha Ténéré 700 Gives Hints for USA

European pricing for the Yamaha Ténéré 700 has finally hit, and while the United States still have over a year of waiting for when this mid-sized ADV bike will hit our soil, the price details gives us an indication of what to expect from Yamaha’s “T7” motorcycle.

Depending on what country of the European Union we are talking about, pricing for the Yamaha Ténéré 700 is set in the mid 9000s. For example in Italy, the Yamaha Ténéré 700 is priced at €9,490.

To extrapolate what that could mean for the US market, we can look at the Italian pricing for the Yamaha MT-07, which the Yamaha Ténéré 700 is based upon, which is priced at €6,790. The same model in the United States is priced $7,600, which is pretty close to a direct currency conversion (€6,790 is $7,700 at today’s exchange rates).

Extrapolating that concept to the Yamaha Ténéré 700, we can see the United States getting the T7 around the $10,800 mark. That figure might get pushed a little closer to the $10,500 price point by the Yamaha bean-counter and marketing team, which should solidify the Yamaha Ténéré 700 as the price-point ADV bike in the middleweight segment.

This pricing is a bit higher than we were hoping for the Ténéré 700, as we wanted to see the Yamaha under the $10,000 price barrier, but we still have to admit that the pricing so far for the T7 is looking strong.

After all, we still have over a year to wait before the Yamaha Ténéré 700 will be available in the United States, which means for more riders they won’t get a chance to ride the T7 until the 2022 riding season, which is a tough pill to swallow.

Yamaha gets a little bit of reprieve though, since the KTM 790 Adventure is coming in only limited numbers for the USA this year, and the Austrian machine starts at $12,499 – roughly $2,000 more than where we expect the Yamaha to land.

While the KTM packs more features into that price tag, and comes with considerably less weight than the rest of the field.

To be fair, Yamaha hasn’t released an official weight for the Ténéré 700 yet, but we do know that the bike will be more basic with its feature set.

If the Japanese brand is smart, it’s delay on giving us weight figures is because they are working to make the production bike comes in below the KTM.

Make no mistake, the Yamaha Ténéré 700 has a ton of buzz around it, but not all of that buzz has been good. The two-year-long teaser campaign did the bike no favors, and news that the machine would take another year to come the USA really burned bridges with American riders.

But, the ADV market has been clamoring for a budget-priced middleweight that can do the deed off-road, and the Yamaha Ténéré 700 looks the part. Let’s hope it delivers, and the first ride reviews are positive. Until then…
