I like it but I have no use for lanky motorcycles, even less any dirt to justify it’s ownership or the $ for the admission ticket.
I would be willing to dip my toes in the Duc pool with the Non-Desmo V4 on something like a Monster at less than $15K.

1) Glad to see Jensen isn’t ~~retired~~ dead.
2) Duc did us a nice favor with the instruments design — there is plenty of room to move the cluster to the left in order to mount a vertical GPS unit on the right, which is just so trendy right now.

In reply to rumblestrip. Favor granted: look up the Royal Enfield Himalayan teaser video from 2016. They took the bike so far out its depth that a peg fell off! But seriously the fact that the DesertX was fitted with 90/10 tires (Pirelli Rally STR) is quite telling. To do proper offroad they would fit 50/50 tires like the Karoo3 shod on the KTM adventure 890 R.

In reply to Jensen Beeler. Who's taking over/running the show when you're gone ? My Covid lasted almost 2 weeks. Had been a long time I felt so crappy. Like a really bad cold but none of the B.S normally associated with it (coughing, sneezing, throat pain, runny nose, et al). Got 38*C fever, a slight lack of appetite, lost sense of taste and a few other side effects I'm forgetting now. Almost no weight loss.

In reply to Unemployed Ducatista. I remember during the reveal they said the transfer pump would be available when the main tank indicated a low level. A ducati fuel level indicator that indicates anything would be a miracle. I love my Diavel, but that has never worked. Neither has the fuel level on my buddies Multistrada. Ducati seems unable to make a working sender.

Fair answer. It’s not the scratches and scuffs I’m worried about, it’s the actual mechanical repair/replace cost in time, availability and field serviceability that worries me.

I’m still pretty high up in line for my reservation and not dropping that any time soon.

If the fix cost is a concern… then no bike taken off-road will be cheap enough.
A rock to the case, a holed tank or any other potential scenario is expensive, no matter which bike.
Dropping your bike off the stand onto a starbuck concrete parking lot will be equally pricey.

Having said that, I’ve dropped, slid and laid down my MTS enduro off-roading it….. and it’s a lot tougher than I expected. I know it will get scratched and scuffed and accept it….

It looks amazing upright. I want to know what it looks like laying down when a schlub like me drops it. How much is it going to cost to fix? Will the hand guard that’s integrated into the master cylinders totally wreck the masters? Will the turn signal survive? How easy is it to replace that shifter on the trail?

Breaking News: Moto “journos” offered a paid trip to Italy to assess the prowess of Ducati latest baby on hard pack dry roads wide enough for a semi-trailer found its off-road performance amazing…. No wonder most have lost their credibility.
Distinctive new feature? An overpriced auxiliary tank which adds more electronics and prevent you from fitting hard panniers. I much prefer a cheap and fail-proof fuel bladder that can roll up when empty. Like the motorcycle key fob it’s a technology no one asked for.
