Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak Debuts to Rule All Mountains

A bike we have suspected from Ducati ever since the Multistrada V4 debuted, the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak continues a long tradition from the Italian brand in making a sportier adventure-tourer.

That ethos gets taken to another level with this incarnation though, thanks primarily to Borgo Panigale positioning the base Multistrada V4 as a more all-round ADV bike, with its 19″ front wheel and double-sided swingarm.

Returning the Multistrada to its 17″ ways, the 2022 Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak features not only a smaller front wheel, but also a single-sided swingarm and other sport-focused choices.

Accordingly, the Pikes Peak model has seen a number of ergonomic changes come as well, such as foot pegs that are higher and farther back (10mm each way), handlebars that are narrower and more bent, and a revised rake and trail (25.75° compared to the 24.5° of the Multistrada V4).

Roughly 8 lbs has been taken off the Multistrada V4 in the process as well (527 lbs wet at the curb), which when coupled to the 167hp (125 kW) Granturismo V4 motor, makes for a potent sport-tourer.

Ducati boasts, in fact, that the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is the sportiest ADV bike on the market, and of course, they are right. It would seem that the Pikes Peak model is Ducati’s response for a sport-touring bike in the lineup.

Ducati thinks so highly of the sport features on the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak that they have even added a “Race” mode to bike’s arsenal of electronics.

The “Race” mode is said to make the throttle connection extremely precise and direct, and it of course is linked to different settings on the Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 suspension pieces.

That Ducati has included the Swedish brand’s semi-active suspension system to the Pikes Peak model is of note as well, as previous Pikes Peak models, only mechanical Öhlins suspension was used.

As one would expect, the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak comes with the usual electronic riders aids, including cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control, a new wheelie control, and an up/down quickshifter.

The dash is a 6.5″ TFT unit, and the Bosch adaptive cruise control comes as standard – whether you like it or not.

Helping that sportiness further along are forged aluminum 17″ wheels fore an aft, with Brembo Stylema calipers clamping 330mm rotors at the front.

Of course, the final piece of the package is the Pikes Peak livery, which Ducati says is inspired from the firm’s MotoGP race bike.

That choice, and the choice to continue using the Pikes Peak name are curious, but do add to the racing pedigree that Ducati is trying to communicate with this motorcycle.
